This is a project that I did for my Graphic Arts class. What we did was that we did was that we designed a movie poster for a concept movie created by us. The concept movie that I conceived was something called "The Hangman's Tale". I like to think it is "Brothers Grimm" meets "Dante's Inferno". For this, I did the coloring and tracing in Adobe Illustrator, then I did the lighting and shading in Photoshop to make it really pop and eye-catching.
To the left, we have the ideation sketches for this project. The ideation to the upper midsection is my brain-storming session. In my class, we are encouraged to brainstorm our ideas for what we want to include as main subject matter, minor details, and themes.
To the upper right is a very rough sketch of what would be the basis. It's just positioning where all the main elements are going to be. To the lower left are very rough sketches of the male figure; one of them is with the female figure. To the lower center are more sketches of the male figure with a rough sketch of the female figure at the lower bottom of the page with a few hand sketches to the left of it. Then to the lower right is a rough sketch of the figures in the tree.
And finally, to the upper left, is the first iteration of the poster in Adobe Illustrator as you can see it is very flat in shape and not as dynamic. Basically, in this, I getting the coloring in before sending it to Photoshop to work on the lighting and shading to make the poster up. I also did not add in the text yet because it would come up all flat in shape and would not be as dynamic if I did the text in Illustrator.
